Development engineer - motorsport aerodynamics
Tasks:
The BMW Group is offering a fascinating position in the area of motorsport aerodynamics. Your area of work will encompass the basic aerodynamic configuration, design and optimisation of high-performance racing cars of the BMW Group using calculation techniques (CFD), wind tunnel testing and race track data. Your range of assignments will include drawing up coherent aerodynamics and whole-vehicle concepts as well as analysing and understanding aerodynamics effects to optimise CFD and experimental methods and the development and optimisation of suitable aerodynamic characteristics/properties of relevance to racing cars and race tracks. You will also be also involved in the methodical analysis of wind tunnel results and transferring/integrating insights into concepts and technical solutions for the racing car. Finally you will design aerodynamic test parts using CAD software and be responsible for the quality and production of test parts, as well as providing guidance for technicians and engineers during tests.
Qualifications:
Degree in engineering with a focus on aerodynamics or fluid mechanics or a comparable discipline.
Sound experience in the field of vehicle aerodynamics and whole vehicle.
Relevant experience and technical skills in the field of motor racing aerodynamics.
Detailed knowledge of the effects of different flow concepts and reciprocal effects and the impact of these on overall efficiency.
Insider knowledge in the field of top-class touring car racing (e.g. DTM, LMP etc.).
Extensive experience in the area of wind tunnel testing, flow simulation vehicle optimisation, Aeromaps and the analysis of test data and race track data.
Proficient user of IT applications incl. CA tools.
Business fluent command of German and English, basic knowledge of French Capacity for teamwork, communication skills.
Analytical and cross-disciplinary approach, confident manner.
Creativity in problem-solving, initiative.
Enthusiasm for motor racing.
