Funciones

Incumbent is the only LE Staff economist in the Economic Section. He/She provides factual and analytical reporting on the Spanish economy, and supports five Economic Foreign Services Officers (FSOs) in their duties.

Incumbent covers a full range of economic reporting and analytical duties as the sole economic specialist in the economic section. Provides expert policy advice and analysis for price trends, GDP, balance of payments and trade, the investment climate, U.S.-Spain bilateral trade and investment, transportation, infrastructure, labor, health, telecommunications, digital, European Union economic policy, energy, environment, and science, and other issues as requested.  Fosters relationships and initiates activities with the Spanish government, private sector, academic and NGO experts in these areas to promote U.S. interests. Researches and composes complex analytical, statistical and spot reports on issues affecting U.S. interests on a daily basis. Identifies and manages public outreach activities to promote U.S. State Department goals. Must stay apprised of overall political and economic developments in Spain and in the United States.

Requisitos

EDUCATION: Incumbent must have the equivalent of a U.S. Master's degree in economics or business administration.

EXPERIENCE: At least two years of practical experience in government, a trade association or a private firm in the field of statistical, economic, or business analysis.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of economic theory and Spain's economic structure, institutions, and foreign and domestic policies. Familiarity with Spanish statistical and economic publications.

LANGUAGE: Fluent level of English speaking/reading/writing. Fluent level of Spanish speaking/reading/writing.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Incumbent must have well-developed economic analysis and research skills. She should be self-motivated and capable of creative thinking and independent problem solving. S/he should be adept at forming and maintaining a wide-ranging network of public and private sector contacts.
