Funciones

Review / Screening of assigned new opportunities / projects to: inform the company’s go/no-go decision-making and to identify potential environmental and social (E&S) impacts.

Based on the E&S review/screening above, determine the scope of work for the E&S Impact Assessment, as well as any other specialist studies (e.g. resettlement plan) for the project.

Over time, develop the ability to put together a rough budget for the cost of environmental and social studies and planning for a given project.

Engage with engineering team to assess ways in which E&S impacts can be reduced or avoided through design / technology factors.

In conjunction with E&S consultants, develop mitigation measures in consultation with the construction teams on the ground.

Monitor implementation of key E&S mitigations during project construction and handover phase to the Client Clients are typically government ministries.

Develop Terms of Reference/Requests for Proposals to hire consultancies to perform Impact Assessments / Resettlement Action Plans for Projects. Assess and select them based on technical and financial criteria, as well as alignment with the IFC E&S Performance Standards and Equator Principles.

Support country teams in Africa and Latin America to submit the Impact Assessments for their projects and navigate the National regulatory processes.

Coordinate and supervise the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Studies carried out by external consultants. Review their field data collection plans and their draft reports / other deliverables, ensuring value for money from consultants.
Experience with Stakeholder Engagement (local government/authorities, traditional leaders and communities) to ensure mutually beneficial outcomes for both parties.

Understanding of how Grievance Mechanisms should function and how grievances should be managed.

Coordinating and assessing Environmental and Social Due Diligence processes for the Projects, for subsequent approval by Financial Institutions.

Engage with and liaise with Financial Institutions (banks and export credit agencies across Europe) to help secure financing for the Project and ensure that impacts assessments, management plans, monitoring and performance are in line with their requirements.

Work closely with the commercial team, the engineering team, the in-country Project teams and Financial Institutions to meet the overall timelines for securing Project financing / approvals.

Conduct site visits in Africa and Latin America.

Requisitos

Auditing certification and experience (either internal or third party), e.g. OSHAS 18000, ISO 45001,  ISO 14000, ISO 9001 Auditor (desirable)

Resettlement and/or community relations experience.

Knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Understanding and application of good international industry practice, including standards such as Equator Principles, IFC E&S Performance Standards, World Bank/IFC EHS Guidelines.

Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Management, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required.

Master’s degree or other relevant postgraduate qualification is desirable, but not essential if proven professional experience gained on-the-job.

Health and Safety Qualification is required.
