FIRMWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER (F/M)

The business unit »Wireless Microsystems« (WMS) has long-term experiences in research and development of wireless communication technologies such as RFID and optical wireless communication / Li-Fi as well as its integration into different systems and applications. We are currently looking for a Firmware Development Engineer with a strong understanding of electronics and embedded hardware design.

We implement Proof of Concepts, prototypes and products in small multidisciplinary teams together with our industrial partners and customers, who are active in various markets such as: consumer electronics, energy, factory automation, building infrastructure, life science, logistics, engineering or mobility.
We integrate our know-how in the fields of wireless communication – Li-Fi and RFID – as well as the software-based system integration and set new technological standards.

Responsibilities

  • You support the implementation of future-oriented software projects in the field of IoT and industry 4.0
  • You develop and verify software/firmware for our embedded hardware in projects with our international partners from industry and science
  • You will design, implement and integrate firmware in cooperation with our electronics development team
  • You work on innovative technologies and help to integrate them in new architecture concepts

Required qualifications

  • University degree (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Microelectronics)
  • Knowledge of design and implementation of multitasking and event-driven firmware for microcontrollers using C/C++
  • The acronyms JTAG, SPI, I2C, RTOS are not just meaningless words for you
  • You are eager to learn and use new technologies
  • You know how to use multimeters, soldering irons and oscilloscopes to debug your firmware

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits are based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.
The working time is 39 hours per week.
The position is initially limited to 2 years.
