In this job you will get the opportunity to work with protecting the latest new diabetes drugs in collaboration with Novo Nordisk researchers in Denmark, USA and China. Ensuring exclusivity for new products is essential for Novo Nordisk’s business and you can make a difference by being a central part of the innovation process. Within Novo Nordisk Corporate Patents, you will join a team of highly skilled patent attorneys with a diverse international background. The position is located in Novo Nordisk headquarter in Bagsværd, Denmark. About the department: Novo Nordisk Corporate Patents department comprises more than 30 patent attorneys and administrators working together to ensure exclusivity and freedom to operate for new and existing pharmaceutical products and devices. The position: The position is a temporary position of 15-18 months duration in replacement of a maternity leave, starting out middle of March or 1 April 2018 in order to ensure business continuity. You will provide patent support to Novo Nordisk early stage R&D projects mostly related to insulin compounds and cells technology. In this role, your main responsibilities will include: • Setting up optimal patent strategies and implementing decisions. • Ensuring the strongest possible patent exclusivity, especially drafting, filing, prosecuting patent applications and conducting patentability evaluations. • Securing the freedom to operate, especially performing freedom of operation analyses and execute appropriate courses of action, monitoring potentially harmful third party patent rights, conducting infringement and validity evaluations of third party patent rights, proposing mitigation actions as need be and communicating to the project members and research management. • Supporting due diligence and in licensing opportunities, especially assessing the strengths and weaknesses in IP assets and freedom of operation of potential business partners (patent due diligence), communicating to relevant managerial governance boards, communicating with external potential business partners and advising with respect to IP sections of licensing and cooperation agreements. This Patent Attorney position involves some level of independence in decision making, ability to take initiative and some creativity in order to address an evolving patent situation. Across all above responsibilities, you will communicate your IP recommendations to R&D project members, Patent management, Research management within Global Research as well as Legal management and Licensing Directors. Hence strong communication skills and a high level of professionalism will be necessary. Occasional travels can be expected.
Qualifications: Technical qualifications and experience: • M.Sc., Engineer degree or equivalent in Peptide Chemistry, Biotechnology including cell technology or related • Education in pharmaceutical formulations will be a plus Patent qualifications and experience • Preparing towards passing the EQE • About 3-4 years of professional experience as patent attorney in private practice or corporate IP department • Experience and successful track record in: • Freedom to Operate analyses • Patent application drafting • Patent prosecution, especially before the EPO • Patent strategy discussion and elaboration - mostly in the technical field of peptide chemistry, biotechnology including cell technology or related - in the technical field of pharmaceutical formulations would be a plus • Excellent organisation and time management skills • Excellent communication skills in oral and written English • Excellent collaboration skills, successful team work experience • Strong ability to build respect among internal and external business partners • Ability to work independently • Strong ability to effectively to meet set targets Please address above requirements in your application letter and buttress relevant experience and skills with specific examples.
